Chryslers in the Canyon V Flyer

Chryslers in the Canyon V will take place Saturday, October 12th, 2013 in scenic Palo Duro Canyon.  We have once again reserved the Mack Dick Pavilion to provide accommodations for attendees.  We are in the process of making several improvements and think that this year will be the best yet!

A few things that have not changed is the fact that the show is free, Della will be on site to take pictures of your Mopar, and we will flim your car entering the canyon and upload it on YouTube.

Among the improvements for this year will be the new meet up point at Walmart.  While, not our ideal location, due to circumstances beyond our control it will work quite well. This location is just north of town and only adds a minute or two of drive time to the cruise.

Entry fee to the park will be $5 per person, but last year they made a last minute change and gave everyone a discount...That may happen again this year, but my advice is to plan on $5 per person and then gladly take the change if it pans out that way.

Event shirts should be available on site and made to your spec.

The awards will be structured in largely the same manner, but with our pre-registration going up extremely early this year we have the flexibility to add awards or adjust a few etc.

You can help us make this happen AND increase your own chances of winning by registering now:

http://www.amarilloareamopars.com/cicvregistration

You can also help us out by spreading the word on Chryslers in the Canyon V and printing off flyers to hand out in your area.

We look forward to seeing you and your Mopar this October!

Chryslers in the Canyon IV 2012

What: Chryslers in the Canyon IV
When: Saturday, October 13th, 2012 10 AM-3 PM
Where: West Texas A&M Events Center, Palo Duro Canyon State Park
How Much: FREE ($5 Per Person Park Entry Fee)

Food: You Want It, You Bring It (We can caravan to the Big Texan afterwards)
Awards: There will be plenty...more to come shortly!

Chryslers in the Canyon IV will take pace Saturday, October 13th, 2012.

Note that this is not the third weekend that we usually slate for the event.  The reason was the Mack Dick Building.

For those unaware, the Mack Dick Building is a brand new, state-of-the-art facility that will give us a great place to hang out and present awards.  The building features a full kitchen, restrooms, projector screens, lots of seating, a sound system, covered out door space, and of course AIR CONDITIONING.  Furthermore, should we catch a shower or two the facility will give us cover.

Somehow the state didn't communicate with the park when the reservations would begin...everyone suspected Mid-May...well it must have been early April.  Needless to say we are pretty lucky to have landed the weekend prior, so we will chalk it up as win.

Chryslers in the Canyon is truly a one-of-a-kind event.  This is an ALL MOPAR CRUISE AND SHOW...AND IT IS FREE!!  That's right, free.

When was the last time you went to a car show, with awards, and didn't pay an entry fee?  Oh, and if anyone has been to an ALL MOPAR SHOW you are aware that the organizers charge quite the premium for oh so graciously eliminating the mustangs and camaros of the world.

This is a grass roots show.  We take the established norm, gold class standards, entry fees, and politics throw them out in the parking lot and do donuts around them with open headers...needless to say, it is a nice change of pace.

You are also all to aware that most car shows take place in a parking lot near a strip mall or run down fairgrounds.  That is not the case here.  Instead of taking a shot of your car with Walmart or Payless Shoes in the background, you will be surrounded by rugged, canyon terrain that makes for incredible pictures for your Mopar and your family.

Amarillo Area Mopars has once again teamed up with Della Moyer Photography.  Della is a local photographer who specializes in car shows.  She will capture the entire event on film and should you want any special shots of your Mopar, she will be glad to take them.

Similarly, yours truly, is making a habit of standing beside 200' drop-offs to take videos of all the Mopars coming downhill into the canyon.  It is truly a great drive and makes for one heck of a video.  Rather than have you purchase an official DVD for another $25 we will have the videos live on YouTube shortly after the show and of course, FREE of charge.

If you are visiting from out of town, we will gladly caravan with you to the World Famous Big Texan Steakhouse!  Or if folks want some other type of food we'll help get you somewhere good.

We do things a little differently, but the fact we have gone from 30 cars to 150 cars in 3 years means it mus be resonating well with the Mopar masses.

We invite you and your family to come join us for Chryslers in the Canyon.  It is a great time, an incredibly unique and photogenic setting for a carshow, features a nice, scenic cruise, has awards, eliminates all the paperwork and politics associated with most shows, and did I mention it is FREE?!

Chryslers in the Canyon is truly an event you have to attend to appreciate.  We have grown every year and the people and Mopars have gotten better and more diverse.

For more information, you can ask here, sign up on the forum, chime in on Twitter, post up on Facebook, or send us an e-mail...All the links can be found on this page.  Don't forget to check the sidebar for links to previous events...you will enjoy it!

Also for your convenience, here are a few flyers for this year's event:

About Chryslers in the Canyon

Chryslers in the Canyon is a true, one-off car show that you will not find anywhere else.  An All Mopar Show, Chryslers in the Canyon takes place every 3rd Saturday in October.

Unlike most shows where you gather up in a parking lot bordering a strip mall, Chryslers in the Canyon takes place in beautiful Palo Duro Canyon State Park.  Instead of having Payless Shoes in the background of your picture, you have weathered rock surrounding you.  This creates the environment for once of a lifetime pictures...every time you attend!

The other thing is the process.  Chryslers in the Canyon keeps things simple.  We want you to have a great time and we hope that you will continue to attend.  To help increases those odds we keep entry fees to a minimum.  Oh, and we get you in the park with a group rate admission that sets you back $2 per adult.  So, worse come to worse, you can get into the park and save over the usual admission price...not a bad start, eh?

We currently do not charge an entry fee associated with the show (if we could get into the canyon for free we'd do so, lol).  If we do ever opt to charge an entry fee it won't be more than $10.  That is a steal...show me another ALL MOPAR SHOW that doesn't rake you over the coals.  Just last year in Las Vegas I had to pay $75 to get into MATS...and I didn't have a car with me.  Anymore you can't enter the local, generic shows for less than $20.

We are not in this for money, we want YOU to have a great time.  Chryslers in the Canyon is ALL MOPAR and we have cars from 1930s rods, 50s and 60s cruisers, 60s-70s Muscle Cars, K-Cars from the 80s, trucks from all eras, and late models from Challengers, Vipers, Magnums, Neons, PT Cruisers and Chargers.  You will truly be hard pressed to find a better assortment of Mopars with friendlier people.

Just this past year we had a 69 HEMI Daytona, a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, 2 AAR 'Cudas, a Challenger T/A, and full assortment of stud A, B, and E-body cars...not to mention a large gathering of late model Challengers.

The way things typically goes, someone is talked into coming, or finds info on the show and decides to give it a go...They wind up having such a great time that they return next year, but bring a friend or two with them.  This is exactly how something grassroots should grow and we could not be happier about it.

Each year we have increased the awards, primarily to match our increased attendance.  We really do tailor the awards to match attendance.  If we continue to have so many 68-70 B-Bodies we will make a class for them...then subdivide by model if needed.  Should the A-Body guys continue to pile in we will divide by years and models.  Similarly if we get word 20 Vipers are going to snake their way into the canyon we will make the adjustments.

We have been lucky enough to have a member pick up the tab on brisket the last two years...brisket to feed everyone in attendance.  This is a big undertaking and we are looking into options to continue that trend this year.  We might wind up with a catering outfit, or just get back to CIC I origins and make it a "Bring Your Own Food."

This past year, we had so many out-of-towners, we incorporated a dinner at the world famous Big Texan Steak House.  We plan to continue this trend and for the folks that come in Friday night we usually plan a dinner somewhere close to the host hotel.

For those staying longer, we will have a chance to run down the track at Amarillo Dragway.  Should we get enough interest we might make this MAAD (Mopars at Amarillo Dragway) event and put out awards or cash up for grabs.

We always make sure to land the best rates at a local hotel to make your stay as affordable as possible.

Should folks come in earlier or stay later, we will do our best to keep you busy and have a great time.

Chryslers in the Canyon is truly a Mopar Event.  We might not register on the big radar and we might not charge $75 or more like most shows, but we think you'll enjoy the change of pace.  Our goal is to keep things simple, as close to free as possible, and make sure the emphasis stays on fun.

If you are interested in attending Chryslers in the Canyon we invite you to e-mail us, leave a comment here, or sign up on the AAM Forum.  You can find pictures and videos from past events on this site and across the internet.

We look forward to meeting you, checking out your Mopars, showing you a good time, and seeing you return every year.

Chryslers in the Canyon I 2009

Well for those of you that missed it, you can take a look at the pics to catch up on things and plan to make it next year.

Overall we had 31 Mopars in the Canyon, with a range from 1939-2009, not a bad variety. Motorvation came from the old, reliable Slant Six, to new age 5.7 and 6.1 Hemis as well as V10 powered Vipers, allthe way up to a few 440 cars and a 426 Hemi. We had members in attendnace from Amarillo, Borger, Canyon, Clovis, Dumas, Hale Center, Pampa, and even some guests from Oklahoma City.

We had three awards this year and they went as follows:

Long Haul Award: Frank Titus-Oklahoma City-Dodge Caliber R/T

Park Ranger's Pic: Cris Rose 1973 Dodge Challenger

AAM Pick: Graham King 1968 Plymouth GTX

Congratulations to the winners!

As I mentioned, the main theme I picked up on when polling folks was that it was hard to select their favorite car because they liked all of them so well. Everyone came away with a dash plaque thanks to a very generous donor.

Della and Jim directed the traffic flow into the canyon which allowed her to get some great shots. Thanks to both of them for their extra time and hard work.

Casey and Jim both had grills available and thanks in part to Bob and Jody we had TONS of stuff to give away...

Thanks to area outfits like: Chick-Fil-A, Sonic, Arby's, Nights-of-Golf, Jorge's, Nightsongs, Shark Fights, In-N-Out Shirts (Cris), and Steve who donated the muffler for making all of that possible. Hopefullythe recipients will enjoy the gifts and it will bring some business back their direction.

I am pretty sure everyone walked away with not only the burger and cookie coupons, but also a give-away item, provided you stayed. For those that left early, tough luck :P

This was a great event and a solid turnout. I honestly thought we would have had a few more, but considering the slate of NCAA games, I'd say we did pretty good. We were also blessed with a PERFECT day...The temperature hit the mid 70s and there was virtually no wind...Doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks to everyone who put time in on this and worked to make it a reality. We have to start somewhere and I'd say we made a good start. Feel free to use the pictures to promote the event. As word gets out and people see the pictures I think we will be able to expand this quite nicely.

I've already got ideas for next year (which I'll post in a different thread). I just wanted to try and thank everyone who came out and worked to make this a reality. I'd have to say we did pretty good...Great day, solid turnout, and everyone seemed to have fun...That is all you can really ask for 8-)
